Mrs. Adamski From Venus

帽子の形状が何ともUFOに見える、という単純な理由からUFOをテーマにしました。世代からか、UFOと言えばアダムスキー型、故に彼女は金星人のアダムスキー夫人というコンセプトで、欠けていた左手を思うままに古風な宇宙人のイラストや特撮にありがちな触手ヌルヌル系のそれを意識して作りました。

80年代後半、UFO番組でお馴染みの矢追純一氏が監修した「UFOプレアデス星団からの接近」という30cm四方のUFO写真集が存在しました。スイスのビリー・マイヤー氏が撮影した写真はスーパーリアルで、美しい田園風景や樹氷のある雪景色、さらに同フレーム内に飛ぶ飛行機等、どれも有り得ないシチュエーションでしたが、どの写真も額装したいほど美しく、実際私も表紙に使われている写真を額装して部屋に飾っておりました。

しかし、後にマイヤー氏の写真は捏造だったことが判明するのですが、私にとってはその写真の美しさ、美術性の高さの方が重要で、写真の真偽の程にはあまり関心を示しませんでした。インターネットの存在しない、オカルトの分野もまだ牧歌的な時代だった気がします。

I chose the UFO theme simply because the shape of the hat looked like a UFO. Perhaps influenced by my generation, when you think of UFOs, you think of the Adamski type. So, I came up with the concept of "Mrs. Adamski", the Venusian lady, and created her with the imagery of old-fashioned aliens often seen in illustrations and cheesy sci-fi films, complete with tentacles.
In the late 1980s, there was a 12inch square UFO photo book titled 'UFO: Approach from the Pleiades' supervised by Junichi Yaoi, a familiar face from UFO TV programs. The photos taken by Billy Meier from Switzerland were super realistic, showing beautiful rural landscapes, snowy scenes with hoarfrost, and even airplanes flying within the same frame, all in seemingly impossible situations. Each photo was so beautiful that I even had one of them in a metal frame, displayed in my room.
However, it later turned out that Meier's photos were fabricated. Fake! For me, the beauty and artistic quality of those photos were more important than their authenticity, and I didn't pay much attention to whether they were real or not. It feels like a nostalgic time when the internet didn't exist, and the occult field was still idyllic.
