My Early Drawings from 1995

目標も定まらない20代前半、あらゆる思いつきやアイディア、その時の気持ちを手帳に書き留めるようにしていたのですが、インドを中心に世界放浪を始めた頃に描いた絵が数点出てきたので公開します。
この頃 (1994 - 1995) は南インドのゴアを訪れていた時期で、アンジュナビーチの簡素なゲストハウスに滞在し、窓を開ければ目の前にアラビア海が広がる素晴らしいロケーションでした。その影響からか、どこかサイケデリックな世界観を表現しようと一生懸命なのが非常に興味深いです。
ワイルドな場所ゆえ自分のような若者がODやオートバイ事故で普通に死んでいったり、正気を失っていく。そのような恐ろしい現実に怯え、耐えられそうにない時は、恐怖心を誤魔化すために絵を描いていました。
この時期のアンジュナは椰子の木の間にゲストハウスが数軒あっただけの美しいビーチでしたが、近年のゴアは、開発が進みホテルや観光施設が軒並み建てられすっかりリゾート化されているという話を聞いています。

With no clear goals in my early twenties, I used to jot down every whim, idea, and feeling in my diary. Recently, I came across a few drawings I did when I began my world travels, primarily centered around India.
This was around 1994-1995 when I was visiting Goa in South India. I stayed in a simple guesthouse in Anjuna Beach, with a fantastic view of the Arabian Sea right outside my window. Perhaps influenced by that environment, I was quite intent on expressing a somewhat psychedelic worldview in my art.
It was a wild place, and young travelers like myself were all too often lost to overdoses or motorcycle accidents, or simply succumbed to the insanity of it all. During those terrifying moments when the reality of it became overwhelming, I turned to drawing to mask my fear.
Anjuna during that time was a beautiful beach with just a few guesthouses nestled among the coconut trees. I've heard that Goa has undergone significant development in recent years, with hotels and tourist facilities springing up, transforming it into a full-fledged resort destination.
