往年のグレタ・ガルボやビング・クロスビー、日本では優作やショーケン等、優れた役者でありながらもまるで取り憑かれたが如く歌手業を本業の俳優業以上に”演じて”しまう稀有なスター達が存在するが、ジェーン・バーキンも間違いなくそうだ。
アイコニックな容姿の美しさ、デビュー作の Knack や Blow Up で脇役でも主役を食ってしまうようなその存在感。モードも素敵だが、それよりも誰もが持っているジーンズに白いTシャツ、履き古したスニーカーというラフでありふれた組み合わせであるにも関わらず、それをずば抜けて格好良く見せてしまうジェーンのマジック。
航空機内で乗り合わせたエルメス氏が籐の籠にジェーンが必需品を山のように入れているのを見たことが開発のきっかけとなったバーキン・バッグも説明するまでもない。後にスー・チー氏のステッカー、キーホルダーや日本のお守りをじゃらつかせ、ボロボロに使い込んだ文字通りご自身の名前のバッグを抱えて屈託のない笑顔を見せるジェーンの美しさ、可愛さ、格好良さたるや、もう。そんな天然なパンクさ加減が何ともチャーミングなのだ。
こういったチャームは外面を真似すれば誰もができると思ったら大間違いで、根底にある生き方や思想から滲み出てくる蛇足的な”美”で、それは”個性”とも言い換えられる。自分が自分であるための行動、そのリスクを取った勲章として”美”は後から付いてくる。
2011年の東日本大震災ではいち早く来日してチャリティ・コンサートをしてくれたり、そんなことを思い出しながら一日中ジェーンの楽曲を聴いていたが、ボクシングを始めてからすっかり吸わなくなったタバコが吸いたくなったので、オイルの切れたジッポー・ライターをカチカチ鳴らしてゲンズブールを気取ってみた。

Later, adorned with a Sue Chi sticker, jingling with keychains, and worn out from her own usage, the bag was named after Jane herself, as she held it with an effortless smile showcasing her beauty, cuteness, and undeniable coolness. Her natural "punk" attitude is simply charming.
This kind of charm is far from something anyone can achieve by merely mimicking appearances. It's an extraneous 'beauty' that seeps through from the underlying way of life and philosophy, which can also called 'individuality'. The 'beauty' comes as a badge of honor for the actions taken to be oneself, and it follows afterwards, earned through the risks taken.
In the aftermath of the 2011 East Japan earthquake, Jane promptly visited Japan and held a charity concert. While remembering those moments, I spent the entire day listening to Jane's songs.
Since I took up boxing, I had completely quit smoking, but I suddenly felt the urge to smoke again. So, I tried to imitate Gainsbourg by flicking the empty Zippo lighter with a click-clack sound.
